The research evaluation of four types of substrates for the production of seedlings of papaya (Carica Papaya l) in the nursery phase in the canton Jipijapa, province of ManabÍ, aimed to identify the best substrate for the production of seedlings of papaya (Carica papaya l); to evaluate the components of the vegetative development of the seedlings in the different substrates and influence of the substrate on the germination and survival of the seedlings in the nursery phase. The methodology allowed to use a completely randomized experimental design and the evaluated variable was the morphological behavior of the seedlings (stem diameter, number of leaves and plant height) every seven days. The results allowed concluding that the dynamics for content and quality texture within the five treatments favoring treatment T3 = 50% black earth, 25% sand and 25% compost with 94%, providing good germination and excellent morphological behavior of the seedlings ( stem diameter) to treatment T4 = 50% black earth, 20% sand and 30% humus with an average of 2.89 mm and number of leaves was T5 = 50% black earth, 20% sand and 30% compost with 8, 03 and plant height) T5 = 50% black earth, 20% sand and 30% compost, with 11.41 cm and with a low tendency of the control T1 treatment with the content of 100% black earth due to its low porosity capacity I insid the micro climate generating a disease that harms seedlings.
