Teaching-learning in the subject of Biology and the development of critical thinking
Keywords:
teaching-learning, critical thinking, traditional teaching, memorization, critical analysis.Abstract
This study addresses how to foster the development of critical thinking in students of Biology at the El Quiteño Libre Fiscal Educational Unit. It begins with the problem of traditional teaching focused on memorization, which limits critical analysis and the practical application of knowledge. The objective is to relate the teaching and learning of Biology with the development of critical thinking, applying a mixed-method approach that included surveys and interviews with teachers. The results revealed that 85% of students believe that the implemented pedagogical strategies foster critical analysis and reflection, 70% of students perceive that the activities carried out in Biology classes contribute to the development of critical thinking skills, and 92% of students agree that a methodological strategy should be designed for the development of critical thinking. In conclusion, the design of a methodological strategy for the development of critical thinking is an essential step toward improving the teaching-learning process. This strategy must integrate active and collaborative activities that encourage student participation, preparing young people to successfully face the academic and professional challenges of today's world.
