Abstract

This article shows an innovative educational intervention experience where students used to only memorize to pass the exam. Competency education has resurfaced around the world with great force since the end of the last century. The reforms of the Ecuadorian educational system undertaken in the last decade and which cover all levels have one element in common: a curriculum with a competency-based approach. The objective of this work is to present an innovative competency assessment strategy, from an integrative perspective. Additionally, observe and describe the "behavior" and attitudes of the agents involved (teachers and, fundamentally, students), applying a descriptive methodology and bibliographic review. For the development of the experience, participatory strategies and an integrated evaluation are applied within a teaching-learning approach and evaluation by competencies of the students of the 4th semester legally enrolled in the Chair of Surgical Doctor I, of the State University of the South of ManabÍ­. The results are made as an epilogue based on the bibliographic review, where analytical, reflective, critical and creative thinking prevails and towards autonomous and group work and the motivation to learn and be competent, in a framework of negotiation of the curriculum and the evaluation system.
