Training on the proper use of condoms and contraceptives is essential in the prevention of unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). However, there are limitations in the implementation of adequate proposals to improve the use of these prevention strategies among adolescents and young people. The purpose of our study was to evaluate a series of educational strategies for the proper use of condoms and contraceptives; To do this, we must identify the barriers; the perceptions and knowledge of the population under study. A descriptive, prospective and cross-sectional study was carried out, having as target population people selected through non-probabilistic sampling procedures, surveys and semi-structured interviews were carried out to collect data, data analysis was carried out with Excel. A lack of knowledge was observed, even of basic concepts of sexuality and contraception, with 38% of respondents correctly differentiating sex and sexuality. 65% recognize the importance of consent, 36% showed doubts about the autonomy to decide regarding sexuality. 46% did not identify the risks of adolescent pregnancy. In conclusion, educational strategies are required, which are comprehensive. Those that combine technical education, the promotion of autonomy and the de-contamination of erroneous beliefs. The provision of condoms and participatory educational programs showed greater effectiveness in both the correct use of condoms and in the promotion of a lower unplanned pregnancy and STIs.
