Psychoeducational strategy to improve the care of the elderly at the Pazilda Srul home care agency in Santiago de Cuba

Abstract

The research presents a psychoeducational strategy to improve the care of older people at the Pazilda Home Care Agency in Santiago de Cuba. This study is conducted in response to the growing need to enhance elder care, especially in a context where the population is aging rapidly and facing multiple health and well-being challenges. The main objective is to design a program that trains caregivers in psychoeducational skills to provide comprehensive support to older adults. The methodology used is a mixed approach, combining qualitative and quantitative methods. An analysis of the caregiver and elderly population served was performed, and a representative sample was selected. Data collection techniques included surveys and interviews, allowing for a deep understanding of the needs and perceptions of those involved. The results revealed that most caregivers lacked specific training, limiting the care quality. However, the implementation of the psychoeducational strategy showed a significant increase in the satisfaction of older adults and caregiver confidence. The conclusions indicate that ongoing training for caregivers is essential to improve the quality of life for older adults. Implementing permanent training programs that include emotional and practical aspects of care is recommended.
