RISK FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH HYPERCHOLESTEROLEMIA IN ADOLESCENTS FROM 14 TO 18 YEARS OF AGE IN THE CITY OF JIPIJAPA

The present investigation is focused in studying the association that exists between risk factors and hypercholesterolemia in adolescents from 14 to 18 years of age of the city of Jipijapa. To carry out this study, the total cholesterol levels of 208 adolescents were analyzed. The following parameters were also analyzed: BMI, exercise, eating habits, alcohol consumption and family history of cardiovascular diseases.
At the conclusion of this research it was identified that 20.2% of adolescents present with hypercholesterolemia. When evaluating the risk factors in association with cholesterol levels, an existing positive relationship between obesity and cholesterol levels was evidenced. As well as it was demonstrated that adolescents of female gender present higher risk of high cholesterol
