ORAL HYGIENE HABITS IN TYPE II DIABETIC PATIENTS, WEARERS OF DENTAL PROSTHESIS

Diabetes mellitus is associated with various oral complications, such as dry mouth, candidiasis, mucosal ulcerations, and alterations in bone healing. When prosthetically restoring diabetic patients, it is crucial to select a prosthesis design that is simple and comfortable, facilitating the recovery of oral functions and aesthetic rehabilitation. The dry mouth and neuropathies common in these patients can make adaptation to the prostheses difficult. This literature review focuses on the oral health of type II diabetic patients who wear dentures, highlighting the additional challenges they face due to their condition and denture use. The main problem is that the lack of adequate oral hygiene habits can lead to serious complications, affecting oral health. The importance of improving education and oral hygiene habits in these patients is highlighted. And finally, it is recommended to implement educational programs, encourage regular visits to the dentist and promote the use of specific oral care products. Essentially improving the oral and general health of type II diabetic patients with dental prostheses.
