Chestnut (Bertholletia excelsa Bonpl., Lecythidaceae) is one of the predominant non-timber species in the Bolivian Amazon. In vitro asexual reproduction is an alternative for forest species to increase the multiplication rate in a short period of time, and achieve high quality seedlings. The most critical problem in in vitro conditions is rooting in forest plants due to the emission of roots that exists in the hydric imbalance between transpiration and water absorption. The experiment was implemented in a completely randomized design with twelv treatments with different concentrations of IBA (0; 0.1; 0.5; 1.0 1.5; 2 mg/L) and two different media with mineral salts with 4.33 g/L(MS; WPM); with 30 g.L-1 g sucrose supplement, the pH adjusted to 5.7 ± 0.1, solidified with 2 g.L-1 of Phytagel. The results allowed us to conclude that the doses of 0.5 and 1.0 mg.L-1 IBA present root formation in in vitro conditions for the propagation of Chestnut.
