The tourism of the Portoviejo canton, has been urban, rural of excursion and of adventure, to own a biodiversity and many places still without exploiting with natural wealth.
The method used in this investigation is descriptive, because it allowed us to analyze the gathered data and evaluate the characteristics of local tourism development in the city of Portoviejo. The following objectives are to be achieved: Determine the factors that contributed to the tourism development of the Portoviejo canton and examine the use and contribution of tourist sites to the development of the canton.
The results show that tourism spaces have been used for business as food sales, increasing demand and having to hire more labor and generating new ventures, in order to meet the needs of tourists, creating new jobs and income for the locals, another aspect that has contributed to the development are the parks, which have contributed recreational activities for this reason, increasing the number of tourists who visit the Portoviejo Canton, increasing sales of various products.
The tourist gastronomic development is mainly rural, being its specialty the typical food, increasing the income, for the locals. Being a disadvantage environmental pollution, that despite having garbage containers, food waste is still left on the slopes of rivers, negatively contributing to the environment.
It should be noted that tourism and commercial activities have been strengthened, with the visit of tourists to rivers, beaches, parks and the varied gastronomy, generated the tourist development of Portoviejo
